Joyful, skill-building language arts instruction that helps students grow into thoughtful, confident communicators.

See-Level Education offers small-group writing and language arts classes for students at a range of levels, from beginning writers learning to build strong paragraphs to experienced students ready for advanced essay writing and literary analysis.

Classes are intentionally small, with 5–8 students, allowing plenty of opportunity for discussion, individual attention, feedback, and sharing.

Rolling enrollment — $120/month
Students are welcome to join throughout the year as space allows. Your first month will be prorated based on your start date.

Beginning Essay Writing

Building strong sentences into paragraphs—and paragraphs into essays.

For students who are ready to move beyond basic paragraph writing and begin developing the foundations of structured essays.

Using art, vivid prompts, fairy tales, myths, fables, literature, and engaging nonfiction, students learn to:

• Craft strong, varied sentences
• Organize ideas into clear paragraphs
• Develop multi-paragraph compositions
• Express and support thoughtful opinions
• Draft, revise, edit, and polish their work
• Develop their own voice and style

Students work with narrative, descriptive, expository, and opinion writing while developing the grammar and organizational skills they’ll need for more advanced writing.

Grammar & Sentence Craft

Understanding how language works—and using it well.

Grammar becomes much more useful when students see its connection to their own writing. Students explore parts of speech, phrases, clauses, sentence structure, punctuation, usage, and sentence variety while learning how accomplished writers use these tools intentionally.

Lessons include direct instruction, games, sentence analysis, mentor texts, editing practice, and plenty of opportunities to apply new skills in students’ own writing.

Advanced Essay Writing

For students who know the basics and are ready to go further.

Students move beyond the five-paragraph formula to develop more sophisticated arguments, organization, evidence, transitions, style, and voice.

Depending on the course and student level, writing may include:

• Persuasive and argumentative essays
• Compare-and-contrast writing
• Research and source-based writing
• Personal and reflective essays
• Rhetorical analysis
• Revision and editing for style

The emphasis shifts from simply knowing how to write an essay to learning how to make deliberate choices as a writer.

Literary Analysis

Learning to read closely, think deeply, and write about literature with confidence.

Students read excellent literature together and learn to move beyond summarizing what happened to asking how and why a text works.

Through lively discussion and writing, students practice identifying themes, analyzing characters and conflicts, noticing an author’s choices, selecting meaningful textual evidence, and developing literary arguments of their own.

Our Approach

See-Level classes draw from the Institute for Excellence in Writing (IEW), Michael Clay Thompson, The Lost Tools of Writing, classical rhetoric, Science of Reading principles, and original See-Level curriculum.

Rather than following one program exclusively, I select and combine approaches according to what students are learning and what will best help them grow as readers, thinkers, and writers.

Classes balance explicit instruction with excellent reading, thoughtful discussion, games, creativity, and plenty of actual writing.

Placement & Enrollment

Classes are offered throughout the week online and in person, with sections formed according to enrollment and student availability.

Tuition is $120 per month, per student. Sibling discounts are available. Students may join throughout the year as space allows, and the first month is prorated according to the student’s start date.
